Leading and Managing Change
Change processes can be challenging, but they are critical for any organization that seeks to remain viable, vibrant and relevant in the long term. While many people claim to embrace the concept of change in the abstract, when it begins to impact them in concrete ways it is not unusual for people to become resistant. It is also common for some staff or board members to be unable to acknowledge a need for organizational change regardless of how clear the evidence of the need for that change may be.
The reality is that anyone who promises to achieve complete stakeholder consensus for change has probably never run an organization that went through a major change process. At Mission Velocity, we recognize that change is not typically easy or neat, but it can be handled in ways that maximize the chances of a successful transformation. It is crucial to be methodical about gathering input and support for change so that as many stakeholders as possible feel a sense of investment and ownership in new directions for the organization.
We support both leadership and stakeholders through the process, and help to make the case for why such changes are necessary and positive for the organization. Changes may include staff restructuring, program changes, or cost savings, and it is important that stakeholders understand throughout the process that the overriding goal is the achievement of the mission. Mission Velocity provides the support and guidance needed to help organizational leadership successfully navigate change, and create a culture that is more open to change and innovation as ongoing priorities for a healthy and successful nonprofit.
